Open up a new document. Chose the size you want and create it according to what is the purpose of the the project. If you plan to print it, you should use 300dpi. If it's destined for screen then 72 should be fine.
Create a new document with a poster-like size ratio. Visualize how you want the document to be laid out and draw some rough guides with the Brush Tool (B) on a new layer called "guides". I drew several different compartments that will each contain a different piece of text and one that will contain an image.
Create a New Document that is 1024 pixels by 1024 pixels. To define a 512px by 512px rectangle (Leopard icon standard) add four guides (View > New Guide).
First of all, we need to create the spectrogram for this track. So what is a spectrograms? Think of it as a music box. A typical music box creates sounds by plucking metal teeth of various sizes that create musical notes. In the same way, sound editing software will embed digital teeth in a bitmap image. Simply put, it's an accurate visual form of an audio recording.
Make a selection of this Remote Shape. Create a new layer, and using the Gradient Tool, drag from left to right. Use the settings in the image below, with left color (#ffffff) and right color (#e4e4e4). The gradient is not very strong, but it is needed to stand out a bit.
So what steps do you envision having to take to re-create this? I can tell you now that you won't be able to think of everything. There are always little details that you have to deal with as they come up, but let's do the best we can.
Create a new document, roughly about 1000 pixels by 1400 pixels, with a black background. Choose the Rounded Rectangle Tool (U) and draw a rectangle of approximately 600x 1000px. Note that the angle radius doesn't matter since we are going to edit the shape.
Ok, so the very first thing we need to do is create a New Document. Depending on where you are planning on getting your cards printed, you may need different dimensions. The printer I use here in Sydney has a default card size of 90mm x 55mm.
Download the two photos we'll be using for this tutorial: model and torn paper. I downloaded the medium size. Now create a document 1132px by 1696px (these are the same dimensions as our model pic).
To achieve an authentic effect for this poster, we need a portrait-style photograph. The subjects will frequently have a subtle smile, or even a blank stare. It can look a little strange, but there is definitely something quirky and appealing about it!
